MSA1000 Memory module

hi,
I'm going to migrate a MSA1000 from active/pasive to active/active. I have read that is necesary a 256MB module or great in order to do this migration. Quote from "HP StorageWorks 1000/1500 Modular Smart Array application note Migrating to ative/active controllers in Windows environments":
MSA1000 environments must have 256MB or greater cache modules installed; 128MB cache modules are not supported in MSA1000 active/active environments.

how can I know what memory modules have a MSA1000 without open it?

Re: MSA1000 Memory module

hi ,

connect to the controller and in the controller cli input :-

show this_controller or
show globals

that should list the amount of memory you have.

hope this helps

Re: MSA1000 Memory module

Thanks for you response.
I did do that but they don't said me how many modules have it. I can see the MB total in there and the % to read and to write but no how many modules.
If I in true, I think there are more than 1 slot to the memory.

Re: MSA1000 Memory module

hi,

i think the modules are not upgradeable you take out the old one and replace it with a new one of larger capacity see here :-

Re: MSA1000 Memory module

Thanks for the document.
This is the problem, I don't know if it has a 256MB module or two 128MB modules. I need a way to obtain this information without opening the MSA1000.

Re: MSA1000 Memory module

there is only one module in each controller the size of which will be the total of the read /write cache displayed in show this_controller.

hope this helps

Re: MSA1000 Memory module

Output from a controller module with two cache modules:
+----
CLI> show this_controller
Controller:
MSA1000(c) Compaq PB9xxxxxxxx Software 4.48 Build 342 Hardware A
Controller Identifier:
...
Cache:
Unconfigured Version 2
Cache is GOOD, but Cache is NOT configured.
No unflushed data in cache
Battery:
Module #1 is fully charged and turned on.
Module #2 is fully charged and turned on.
