MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

MSA1000 san issue three nodes accessing san all servers Windows 2003 Standard with Service pack one. The issue is when trying to run Array Configuration Utility it would display an error with the page cannot be displayed. The setting has been switched off in internet explorer to show friendly http errors.
A call was logged to HP Support after looking at logs said the SAN needed to be rebooted. This was scheduled for this weekend. The SAN gave the same error after the reboot so we decided to upgrade the Proliant Support Paq we downloaded the 7.60 version and installed this on Node-1 it asked for a reboot, there was an issue with the drivers for the HBAâ s that the PSP installed in that we lost connectivity to san. We rolled back the driver so that is fixed.
The issue now is we can open the ACU but we get an error when the msa1000 is selected. â overlapping arrays existâ I have done a search in the forums and only found this issue close but no solution. I have attached the output from show tech_support and some details on the servers below.
Node-1 file and Print.22
HBA Driver 8.2.0.73
Antivirus software is sophos version 5.2.8 dat file 4.12
6.0.3790.1830 with service pack 1

Output of command "spmgr versionâ

C:\Program Files\Compaq\SecurePath\SPMgr>spmgr version
spmgr version: 4.5.0.6
Connected to: dd-fsdc1.jpc.lan, 5.2
Agent Version: 4.0.18
Driver Version: 3.7.240

Node-2 exchange 2003 server.
HBA Driver 8.2.0.73
Antivirus software is sophos version 5.2.8 dat file 4.12
6.0.3790.1830 with service pack 1

Output of command "spmgr version"

C:\Program Files\Compaq\SecurePath\SPMgr>spmgr version
spmgr version: 4.5.0.6

abnormal program termination

C:\Program Files\Compaq\SecurePath\SPMgr>

Node-3 SQL 2000 Server.
HBA Driver 8.2.3.11
Antivirus software is sophos version 5.2.8 dat file 4.12
6.0.3790.1830 with service pack 1

Output of command "spmgr version"

C:\Program Files\Compaq\SecurePath\SPMgr>spmgr version
spmgr version: 4.5.0.6

abnormal program termination

C:\Program Files\Compaq\SecurePath\SPMgr>

An additional note we have updated all nodes with PSP 7.60 and had to roll back driverâ s we did not rerun the command â spmgr versionâ command on node-2 or node-3. I forgot to find out information on the 2/8 switches but will update when I can.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

I dont have the RJ45Z cable to access the san this morning but, this is the output before I updated the firmware on the controllers from 2.38.B22 to 4.32.B300.

The link which I posted was removed so here it is again.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=926869&admit=-682735245+1165832863152+28353475

The line below the antivirus version is Internet Explorer version.

The fabric OS version is V3.1.0.

The spmgr version command is still the same after PSP update.

Thanks for any help.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

Don't know how I missed it before but now I see your problem in the show tech_support.

We can proceed cautiously and get An ADU report.

Or
Power off the SAN and remove Disk113. Power up your SAN and try to run ACU.

Do you recall if Disk113 was part of your Array? If so, then your LUNs will be in a degraded state.

If ACU doesn't post the, double array error but Disk113 was part of your Array. Set your Rebuild priority to high and hot add a new drive or assign Disk114 as your spare or hot remove Disk114,wait 1 minute, then add it to disk113 slot.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

John,

I will get the ADU over the next few days and post it up.

Thanks for the help.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

John,

I have attached the ADU from each node and a screen of the error in ACU.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

Paul,
I haven't forgotten, just doing some business travel. I see a couple of items in the ADU reports. One item in particular, has my interest, let me speak with the ADU Software Engineer and get back with you.

Please answer the following,
Was Disk113 originally part of your Disk array?
Did you try to expand to your array with disk113(slot13)?

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

Paul,

It is going to be difficult to pinpoint which drive. I'm still waiting for a response on a couple of strange messages.

The drive in slot 1 has many hardware failures. If you set up a spare, then I would recommend removing this drive. Make sure your Rebuild priority = high.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

John,

Sorry for the delay HP asked for all components to be firmware upgraded. I got the downtime on the box and MSA last night. Disk 13 and 14 have never been assigned to anything at all. Could a disk failure swap-out cause Disk 13 to be consumed in this manner and cause the overlapping array.

Paul

Again thanks for the help.

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

Paul,
It is very unusual for something like this to happen.

Was there any chance that a LUN was already created those swap drives?

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

Good morning. I am experiencing the same problem with an MSA1000, after adding new drives and performing an expansion.

I have two questions:

1. Do I need to panic? All the LUNs are up and working fine, but will they stay that way?
2. Should I start a new thread or would this one do?

Thank you

Re: MSA1000 overlapping arrays exist

Hey,

I dont know of anything we can do in this case. it looks like I will rebuild san over the comming weekends, The san is working fine but we want to add more disks.

Do you guy's think a rebuild would sort the issue out.
