msa1500 with brocade 4/16

Hi! i have one trouble.
I have msa1500 and two brocade san switch 4/16.

i have attached msa1500 to san switch (switches not in fabric) so switch which attached to active controller get wwn, and other switch don`t get wwn, but port on switch became F-port. I tried to make failover, remove active controller, so passive became active, but switch didn`t get wwn. Is it trouble in active/passive firmware ?

Re: msa1500 with brocade 4/16

There is newer firmware that supports active/active controllers. You may want to consider using it. Even with the active/passive firmware, you should check to see if you have the latest release of it. Similarly, you may have to update the firmware in the 4/16 SAN switch. Generally, you need SecurePath on the hosts if you are going to use active/passive firmware. What is the OS that you are using for your hosts? You should be able to see the WWN on the display of the MSA controller.

ok, but even if i have old firmware version i should see msa wwn`s in brocade "zone admin" from active and from passive controller. Isn`t it ?

Re: msa1500 with brocade 4/16

You should unless there are incompatibilities between the two firmware releases which is possible. The MSA1500 is 2Gb/s, and the 4/16 should adjust, but maybe there is an auto-negotiation issue.

I am not sure that you see the passive controller. Is there some reason not to go to active-active? It simplifies failover immensely. You don't need to buy SecurePath.

Re: msa1500 with brocade 4/16

i`m not against active/active, but i want to try resolve problem in active/passive. And i have 2 paths from each server, so i also should use Secure Path or MPIO, in other way windows will not see LUN correctly.

there is one thing. Passive controller is successfully login to fabric, so port became F-port. I want to try remove active controller when msa shutdown and then start up with 1 controller which was passive, i think it should work`s and i will see wwn on switch.

Hello ildar.a,

On the two brocade switches, if you do a "switchshow", whats the output for the MSA 1500 port on both the switches?

Are the two switches connected thru ISL?
If they are not connected you will not see both ports thru "Zone Admin"

Are the lights lit on the MSA ports?

- Good Luck

I tried remove active controller when msa shutdown and then start up with 1 controller which was passive, and finally i get wwn from this controller. So i think it because i have active\passive firmware

Re: msa1500 with brocade 4/16

disable active controller and you will get wwn, or change firmware to active\active
