MSA2324i Volume can't be accessed from other machines

Hello,

I hope somebody is able to help me.
I have HP MSA2324i iSCSI SAN.
I have 1.2 TB of volume assigned to my Domino server as the E drive (This is Domino directory).
Domino server is working OK. No e-mail flow problems have been reported or seen.
My problem is I can’t access to the E drive using either FQDN (\\DominoSrv\e$) nor IP from any machines in the network, however I can access any other drives ( C and D, both directly attached to the server)

When I try to access from servers logged on as a domain admin, the error message will pop up saying “No network provider accepted the given network path”

In the mean time, when I try to access from machines logged on as any user account, the log on window opens.
When I type the domain admin’s password, it won’t be accepted and the window keeps popping up.
So, it looks like an authentication issue to me???
I didn’t change any password or the drive security properties at all.

Because of this, daily backup routines keep failing.

I can access any SAN drives assigned to another server either FQDN and IP from any machines.

Please help me!!!

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

What if you try to set up a specific share (don't forget security/share permissions) instead of using the E$?

What OS are you running?

If you go to computer management you can find the shares there.

Re: MSA2324i Volume can't be accessed from other machines

Hi Johan,

Thanks for the reply. I shared the Lotus folder in the Domino directory w/ full sharing access for everyone and tried if I can access to the shared folder.
I was able to access, so I went to Backup Exec 2010 R2 and checked the selection of the back up job.
The shared folder is listed but the checkbox is grayed out.

Also Domino server has Domino Agent installed, so Domino directory should list under the server, but it was not.
I checked the Backup Exec services and found Backup Exec PureDisk File System Service was stopped. After I started this service, the Domino directory started appearing again.

But When I try to access \\DominoSrv\E$, still same error message pops up.
For now I think I'm OK as long as I can back up the Domino directory.

I'm still wondering why all of sudden this happend???

Thanks again for your help,

Re: MSA2324i Volume can't be accessed from other machines

On my 2012fc SAN, I have to give the LUN read/write access to each server. HP does not recommend having multiple servers connecting to a LUN that has an OS on it. You can corrupt it.

Re: MSA2324i Volume can't be accessed from other machines

Yeah, block access to a file system from multiple servers that does not support this/clustering is a bad idea.

But accessing an 'export' like samba should not be causing corruption. Of course - if you try to actually use it and boot from that share I can see the similarities, but to backup? So only read? Shouldn't be a problem right?

Re: MSA2324i Volume can't be accessed from other machines

What is the OS version ?

I hope earlier you don't have any issue of accessing \\DominoSrv\E$ but suddenly it started.

This can be issue with the domain user profile of that particular host. Sometimes user profile re-creation will resolve the issue.

I understand from the same MSA you are able to access other LUNs from other servers right ?

Check if you can create another LUN and present it to the same server and try to access it in same way as a testing.

Re: MSA2324i Volume can't be accessed from other machines

Hi Miho,

NTFS it's not a clustered filesystem and so DO NOT TRY to present and access the same LUN to multiple hosts or the volume MFT can became corrupted!

Besides the good point to use a network filesystem like cifs or nfs you can try (script) to take advantage of the hardware VSS snapshots support to present and mount a crash consistent (i donno if Domino has a VSS writer for application consistent snaps) at the backup server.
