Need info about EVA3000

Hi Guys,

Was reading about EVS3000 storage array.
The datasheet about the product says that it has two controllers (each with two host ports ).

I wanted to know if :

1. Are both this controllers working in active-active mode ?

2. to directly connect this array to a host will i need dual connection from a single controller or a single connection from each of the controller or dual connection from both the controllers?

Does any one have any design or implementation guide for this product (for a novice like me)

Regards ,
Vip

Re: Need info about EVA3000

The EVA3000 HSV100 Controller operate in an active-active role.

If you directly connect, you should have a single connection from each controller, but it is my understanding that the EVA is not meant to have directly attached hosts. You should be using a SAN switch. If need be, obtain 2 cheap 8 port SAN Switchs.

There are guides available on the hp website. I will post again with some links.

Re: Need info about EVA3000

Hello Vip.

Both controllers are indeed active/active, but I/O to a virtual disk is only possible through both host ports of one controller at a time. The virtual disk is visible on the other controller, too (so that any multipath software knows that there are more paths available), but it responds with a 'not ready'. Of course, you can and should distribute all your virtual disks between both controllers.

You *MUST* connect the EVA to fabric switches.

Any new EVA is sold with installation & startup services. Please do not attempt to create a purchase order on your own - it is too easy to forget something important.

Steven promised to provide you with some web links, so I won't spend any time on this.

Any word on active/active concurrent (vs. the now non-concurrent) controller firmware for the EVA?

Re: Need info about EVA3000

Here is the main documentation page. Take a look at the different SAN design guide as they are usually very efficient...

Re: Need info about EVA3000

Hi Guys ,

One small query.

Does VA7110 allow single connection from a host? or do i need to have two connections from the host to disk array (Two HBA on host system + Secure Path S/W )

Im basically wanting a direct connection from a windows host to the VA7110 without using switch.
