please explain CHK COND messages
We occationally recieve these errors and I am being asked to explain why we are recieving them.... though we are having nagging issues with backups, I do not think that we are seeing these errors often enough to pinpoint our issues. Can someone explain to me why we get these specific errors:
1698. 10/23/2007 11:25:48 6d11h36m48.74s CHK COND with Sense Key=0x3, ASC=0x14, ASCQ=0x0 from SCSI LUN 3/3/4/0
1699. 10/23/2007 11:42:24 6d11h53m24.76s CHK COND with Sense Key=0x3, ASC=0x14, ASCQ=0x0 from SCSI LUN 3/3/4/0
1700. 11/03/2007 22:30:28 17d23h41m26.76s CHK COND with Sense Key=0x3, ASC=0xC, ASCQ=0x0 from SCSI LUN 3/0/1/0

Re: please explain CHK COND messages
In general: the HBA (initiator) will send a command to the device (target) and read the response. If there was a problem, the response is a check condition.
Please give more info about the OS and the device.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: please explain CHK COND messages
Sense Key 0x3 is 'Medium Error'.
ASC 0xC is 'write error' and
0x14 is 'RECORDED ENTITY NOT FOUND' (whatever you SCSI device means by that)

Re: please explain CHK COND messages
This looks to me like a medium error of some sort. You should probably call HP support about this and get an engineer out to check your HBA/SAN.
Look at http://docs.hp.com/en/J6373-90030/apas01.html#ciadehfd for a list of the sense key definitions.

Once it's in production it's all bugs after that.
