proposal: MSA1500 controller shelf to replace HSG80's ?
Hello all...
I am about to propose some "interim" upgrades fro our existing fleet of 6 fine running MA8000 ( hsg80 based - scsi disk/shelf) Storage Arrays.. Looks like the current StoragWorks 4354 scsi drive shelfs will tie in to the MSA1500 contrller shelfs.. Is such an upgrade worth the effort ? Performance Gains ? An EVA6100 is something in the future ( 2 years out..) Any ideas/advice/sucesss/war stories most welcome...
thanks

Re: proposal: MSA1500 controller shelf to replace HSG80's ?
The HSG80 has 6 SCSI buses. The MSA1500 has 4. In performance testings I did with cache turned off and random accessing, the HSG80 with 30 disks handled 4,700 I/Os/second and a MSA1000 did over 10,000.
One concern with using an MSA1000 in place of the HSG80 is whether the 4 SCSI can handle the load. Maybe someone can answer this.
Regards
Cass
