RA8000 failed disk

Have one disk drive with flashing LED, the controller was configured for Failedset AUTOSPARE feature but when typing command show failedsets it does not list any disks, the locate command is not working either and the spareset shows three disk when I think it only has two spares, the one that configured spare before left no documentation. I tried taking the disk drive out and pushing back in after few minutes, light turns green but then back to flashing amber/orange...any ideas?

Re: RA8000 failed disk

It is possible that the spare disks do not fit, for example, because they are smaller than the failed disk, but that is hard to tell from here.

The HSG does not automatically revert back to the old configuration - you need to do that manually.

The first step for a successful recovery is to get an idea what state your system is in. Can you capture the output of the following commands, store it in a simple .TXT file (no Word document, please!) and paste it as an attachment?

- show disks full
- show mirrorsets full
- show stripesets full
- show raidsets full
- show concatsets full
- show units full
- show failedset
- show spareset
.

Re: RA8000 failed disk

may be disk is showing red LED but still usable. if you have auto spare then try to delete the disk and add it again.
It's kind of fun to do the impossible

Re: RA8000 failed disk

OK, this is just a guess, but let's rule it out before going any further:
The locate command can also make a disk or storage set blink.
Run the command

locate cancel

and see if that does anything.

Which disk is blinking? (what shelf, what position)
All RAIDsets and Mirrorsets are showing normal.

The AUTOSPARE switch only means that when a disk is removed from the FAILEDSET it goes automatically into the SPARESET.
The sparing policy for the raid and mirrorsets define wheter it uses a spare or not when a member fails.

Re: RA8000 failed disk

I did try Locate cancel command, disk still blinking, I had tried using that command to locate spares but does not work, just tried the locate cancel again and nothing happened, then tried command "locate disk10100" and got nothing to blink but the disk that's been blinkin and suspect is bad, the disk it's in position 4 second row from top of cabinet, there are four rows of disk drives in cabinet.
Thanks.
