RSM fails to start: "java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused"

RSM had been working fine for quite a while. Now, when I try to start RSM on the management appliance, after the splash screen I get a java error:

"Connection refused to host: localhost; nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect"

I tried reinstalling RSM but same result. The web interface just gives a page not found error. This is RSM server version 2.1. Any ideas?

For someone else who gets this error... if the file ReplService.exe vanishes so the service can't run anymore, you'll get that error message.

Jeremy,

I have just had the same problem with 3.0. How did you go about resolving your issue. My current plan is to install RSM elsewhere and copy the exe. The rest of the dir structure seems to be intact.

Hi ,

before installing Rsm server , you must install EVA command view , use the security group hp storage xxxx , install JRE server , and remember your server must be a standalone , a domain member , but not a domain ctrl.

Re: RSM fails to start: "java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused"

Can you verify if the port used by RSM (1099) is free.

You can change this port using the installer GUI , but i think that hp recommend to keep this value.

Hi,

I thought the default port for RSM is 1315 not 1099 ??

Re: RSM fails to start: "java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused"

Jeremy and I have the same situation. RSM was already installed and working fine. Then (for me after a reboot), replservice.exe disappeared. So having command view already installed is not an issue here. Obviously, it already was for RSM to have ever worked in the first place. Jeremy and my issue is the sudden disappearance of replservice.exe

I have this situation also. I am curious did you all actually find a solution?

Re: RSM fails to start: "java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused"

I had this issue while upgrading to CV 7.0.1 and RSM 3.1

While trying to sort this out, I would not touch RSM 3.0. It fails with a java install error, and corrupts the database. RSM 3.1 is fine though.

The trick with the replservice.exe is to make it read only. After a reboot the file is not deleted. I'd also take a copy just in case too.

Hope this helps!

Sorry I didn't explain what I did to solve the problem. I believe I just manually added the service back. It was a long time ago now, don't remember for sure.

Just found this thread and thought I would post the solution I found.

Go to Services and start the 'ReplServer' service.

Hello,

I had that problem... the only thing i did was look to the password that RSM uses.

Regards.

Re: RSM fails to start: "java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused"

I will chime in here. I just had the same error with a 4.01 RSM server. I was attempting to setup Single Sign-on and got the above Java error. My final solution was to start the HP RSM Server and HP RSM Database services which, for some unknown reason, just stopped and did'nt restart after a reboot, although both were set to automatic.

Wierd. Thanks to all who gave possible solutions.
