SAN software

If I am setting up a SAN with Brocade switches and a VA7100 I know I can do zoneing with the switch but could someone tell me briefly what I might need from a server software standpoint to logically divide and secure LUN's to 2 servers...or can I do it all through the switch...Thanks

Re: SAN software

Hello,

in order to avoid that both servers can see all LUNs that are created on the VA7100 storage you'll need to configure the LUN security table so that i.e. the fiber card(s) in server 1 can only see the LUNs it is supposed to write to. This table is in fact a small ascii file that you download in the VA7100 array. The reason why you need this LUN masking mechanismn is because the VA7xxx array presents all LUNs on each controller so you can't filter that out via zoning on the switch, without LUN security, every server will see all LUNs.

So what you need is the CommandView software that comes with your VA7100 array (one license included), LUN security is a part of that CommandView software, by default you have a 50 Gbyte license, if you need more you need to buy licenses.

From within the CommandView GUI or from the commandline their is a possibility to build up the list of WWN of the fiber cards and assign the right level of access to the LUNs.

If your hosts will have multiple fiber cards you can add path failover software (i.e. Autopath) also.

Check the manual for details or post the questions here if you need more.

Re: SAN software

You should be using the surestore command view sdm software.
