san Switch zoning

Hi I am planning to do a zone in a San swith.
These switch have 16 port (2).

The Scheme that I am going to use is Swith/Port level zoning.

To these swithes I am going to connect two HSV110 ports (one port of each controller pair), and two port for FCAs (fiber channel adapters);one FCA per each node (I have to nodes).

I create a zone name called systemA
and add the port 1,2,3,4 of the first SAN swith and the port 1,2,3,4 of the second San swith .

Is this correct?

Thank you .

Re: san Switch zoning

hy.

please, look at the drawing attached.

for example, if you connect HostA with port 1 of Swicth 1 and port 1 of Switch 2 (always keep the symmetry!!!), zoning could look like the following (B-Series switch):

do this on both switches:

1. create an alias "EVA1"
2. add ports 2,4 to alias "EVA1"
3. create an alias "HOST1" (or "SMA1" if it's the Management Appliance)
4. add port 1 to alias "HOST1"

5. create a zone "Zone_HOST1"
6. add alias EVA1 and alias HOST1 to the zone

7. create a configuration called "EVACFG"
8. add zone "Zone_HOST1" to the configuration

9. enable configuration "EVACFG"

(attention: if the switch was not configured with zones before, all ports not in zones will have no access to anywhere after activating zoning!)

Re: san Switch zoning

Mathias
There are two systems , I will have two FCA per each system.

So I will have To add and additional port for the second FCA of each system ,

-1 Is that correct?

-2 So also will have to create a second alias called for example HOST2 and add 2 ports to the alias.

is correct?

Re: san Switch zoning

Richard:

Each of your systems will have only one port on each switch. It should flow something like this...

Switch A
Port 0 - SAN Appliance Port A (The right most fibre port or the bottom most fibre port on the SMA)
Port 1 - EVA Controller A FP1
Port 2 - EVA Controller B FP1 (or FP2)
Port 3 - HBA on System A (right or bottom most hba in the system)
Port 4 - HBA on System B (right or bottom most hba in the system)

Switch B
Port 0 - SAN Appliance Port B (The left most fibre port or the upper most fibre port on the SMA)
Port 1 - EVA Controller A FP2
Port 2 - EVA Controller B FP2 (or FP1)
Port 3 - HBA on System A (left or upper most hba in the system)
Port 4 - HBA on System B (left or upper most hba in the system)

On Switch A, your zoning could look several different ways. My suggestion is...

Alias Port 3 and 4 to "SystemA" and "SystemB"

Alias Port 1 and 2 to "EVA-AFP1"(or EVA-A1) and "EVA-BFP1" (or EVA-B1)

Alias Port 0 to SMA

Create a Zone called "ManagementZone" or "z_management" or "Management" (or something else creative. Add the Aliases for the SMA and the EVA.

Create another Zone called "SystemA_Storage" or "SystemA" (or something similarly creative). Add the Aliases for the EVA and System A.

Create another Zone called "SystemB_Storage" or "SystemB" (or something similarly creative). Add the Aliases for the EVA and System B.

Create a Zone Configuration called "Production" or "Default" or something similary creative. Add to it the 3 different zones you have created. Save the zone config and enable it.

Remember, another else on the SAN switch will not have access to anything else on the SAN switch unless you include those ports into zones and ultimately the zone config.

Do the same configuration on "Switch B". Remember to make the EVA Aliases..."EVA-AFP2"(or EVA-A2) and "EVA-BFP2" (or EVA-B2).

Also, it sounds like you connected your SAN Switches together. You should remove the link, if you did connect them, and treat them as seperate entities.
