Storage Solution
I need to propose an HP storage solution for which should be:
- NAS with at least 35Tb with 15K rpm
- will be connected to both Solaris and Windows platforms
- Can be use for TSM (if possible, but not a requirement)
- should have redundancy/high availability
The solution should be cost effective or the cheapest to be direct (about USD 50K).
I know the budget is too tight, but any solution that can go near the figure or triple the figure can be acceptable.
If there's another solution, a direct attached to the windows or Solaris aside from NAS that can go near the budget is highly welcome.
please let me know if you have any idea on this. Thanks.

Re: Storage Solution
I looked at this one already, but does this one needs a server/host to be attached to? Im not sure if this can be attached to the solaris or windows system, though it says its supports the both OS. i think its the hardware side is the issue here.

Re: Storage Solution
an EVA support a lot of operating systems without a problem, so an EVA is the right system for you. But I think that 50k US-$ will not enough for such a solution. 35 TB brutto capacity mean at leat 78x 450 GB FC drives, 15k. Lets take 80 drives. So you need at least an EVA6100 2C6D (2 controller an 6 disk shelfs). Here some line items:
1x EVA6100 2C6D
80x 450 GB FC drives, 15k
1x CV license unlimited
2x FC-Switches (don't know how many ports)
On top odds and ends like cables, gbics for the switch etc.
I think such a system got a list price of round about 200k â ¬ which mean round about 310k US-$. Okay, that's list price, but if you have luck you will get a discount of 40% over.... Always to much for you. :(
Best regards,
Patrick

Re: Storage Solution
An EVA4400 (fully loaded) would be about 35TB raw. With switches and warranty - over $400k list.
MSA1500 would require 2 units, and even then, are $70k+ each.
Those 15k drives are expensive, and you'll need more than 100 of them.
Anyway, the slick way to do this is with Polyserve software.
You can load Polyserve onto the Windows systems, and directly connect them to the storage. The Windows hosts can serve NFS (we recommend Hummingbird) to the Solaris machines.
The Polyserve software (http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/polyserve/support/hp_polyserve.html) will allow for HA as well as TSM.
All you need is $$. ;^) Great solution.
Good luck!
