syslog output from HSG80 controllers
First let me just say that I am self taught on our MA8000 and hence may ask ordinary questions. I have basically learnt my way around from the ACS command line guide and these forums.
My question relates to syslog and errors that may occur on the HSG80 that are not logged to the FMU.
Is it possible to set the HSG80 controllers up to output to a syslog server? If it is can someone let me know how.
Thanks for your time

Re: syslog output from HSG80 controllers
the HSG80 controllers do not have an ethernet port - they cannot speak TCP/IP. It is possible to install an agent who, if I recall correctly, can send at least mail or notify a pager (never worked with the latter). This is part of the SWCC (StorageWorks Command Console).
Last time I checked, only critical controller errors were stored in the LAST_FAILURE log of the controllers.

Re: syslog output from HSG80 controllers
I monitor/access both CLI ports of 36 HSG's using ConsoleWorks by TDI systems out of Texas. We monitor almost 300 serial console ports using this system. It sends us E-mails and alphapages when an event occurs. These logs are coppied to a syslog server and then saved off for long-term storage.
Note: you need an adapter cable, or you need to convert your 9 pin D to CLI cable in order to plug into your terminal server. The terminal server is setup for Telnet Listener so that it can be monitored remotely over a network.
Since we are a mainly a VMS shop, we use old DECserver 700's to plug everything into. (Even the IBM consoles!) DECserver setup is a LONG topic itself. :-)

Re: syslog output from HSG80 controllers
I will have to look into the third party solution some more. I'll start with your suggestion.
Thanks again
