VA 7XXX LUN configuration question

All this via Commandview SDM:
I have built a number of LUNS that are accessible to the host via an HBA of which both are members to the same redundancy group.
For example: LUN1, Channel1, Redundancy Group1.
This would seem to be its "primary" path.
Should I be also putting in entries for these LUNS to be accessable via the other Channel/redundancy group?
(eg: LUN1, Channel2, Redundancy Group 2)
This would be a secondary or alternate path??

Is there any balancing of I/O along with this, or is it purely a backup I/O channel?

Re: VA 7XXX LUN configuration question

Eli,
take a look at http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x59525c7609e9d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html .
Primary path should lie through C1 for LUNs in RG1 and through C2 for LUNs in RG2, but alternates should lie through C2 for RG1 and through C1 for RG2

Re: VA 7XXX LUN configuration question

I understand the Ch1-to-Rgrp1 thing.
My issue is that right now, each lun is only seen via (1) PATH. In other words, say in SAM I look at disks, it says PATH=1.
Should I modify the Secure LUN Mgr to see the LUNS via both paths? I'm guessing yes...
WIll that effect my already built LVOL's?

Re: VA 7XXX LUN configuration question

Eli,

Both paths should have access to the LUNS via Secure LUN Manager. This will allow both paths to be seen as well as allow for failover to occur should you lose a controller. Also, be sure that you have the latest WSIO SCSI and SAM/OBAM patches as well as the latest firmware and Command View SDM. These can all have an impact on performance.

HTH,

Dave
