i have two rp7410 (cluster Service Guard) connected to one VA7410 with two switch FC. i Configure all in fabric. i have a problem to identify the primary path device associated to the direct path to the RG1 when l create my volume Group (there are 4 devices associated to one LUN in this configuration). With the VA7410 the primary path is the most direct path through the primary controller. So When i create VG, what is the primary link and what are the alternate links ??
thanks

Re: VA7410 device identification in a frabric
for LUNs created within RG1 primary path should go through VA C1 (any of its host ports) and for LUNs within RG2 through C2 (--//--).
How to determine correct device file to use as primary path? Look at hardware address displayed by 'ioscan -fn'. It should look like:
hw_path.switch#.port#.0.a.b.c
where hw_path is hardware path FC card is installed at, switch# is switch domain number, port# is switch port id (3800/3400: port number, 2800/2400: 16+port number), 0 is fabric connection identifier and a,b,c is a LUN number coded as VA LUN=c+8*b+128*a. Note above scheme is valid for brocade switches (not McData).
So you simply need to note switch port number VA controller is connected to, and look into ioscan to the port# value. If you have multiple switches make sure switch# matches domain# of the switch

SolutionThen path to C1 will be
hw_path.1.3.0.a.b.c
and path to C2 will be
hw_path.2.5.0.a.b.c
