virtual Arrays multi path

Hello,

I am configuring a Service guard cluster . For this purpose I have built in a SAN two fabrics. I have two virtual Arrays and 4 storage works SAN switches . The result is that I can see each LUN with four paths . I must install an oracle database and other applications and I need that all data will be replicated between the two virtual array . Now I am in the point to build the volume groups . I want to have all the date replicated in both virtual arrays but I also want to leave the database the maximum I/O to the disks . I am thinking about configuring primary paths and alternate paths but I am not sure if I should use another product , like Securepath , to be able to control the way applications access to the LUNs ...

Can anyone give me any advice . Thanks in advance... I include my HW configuration
Here rests one who was not what he wanted and didn't want what he was

Re: virtual Arrays multi path

Hi,

You need to use Securepath, so that the OS can see only one device associated with the multiple paths.

Otherwise, you could potentially create multiple devices for the one physical device.

Re: virtual Arrays multi path

What exact array do you have?

If it is a VA7100, VA7110, VA7400 or VA 7410 you can use standart HP-UX altenate pathing which works active/passive per path or SecurePath which can do active/active pathing and loadbalancing!

If it is an EVA3000 or EVA5000 you will definitely need SecurePath in order to handle the representation of the LUNs.

And by the way, you said Servce Guard!
Is it Service Guard for HP-UX or Linux?

Please tell us!

Re: virtual Arrays multi path

I just noticed that you attached a drawing!
You obviously built a so called "Campus Cluster" where you mirror all data between two locations on two arrays using Mirror-UX!
So, you do not see a single LUN four times! What you see is for example LUN3 on Array Asreix twice and LUN3 on Array Obelix twice.
Whta you need to do is to specify the primary and alternat path for every LUN on each array and then using Mirror-UX to mirror the LUNs ; in the example above LUN 3 Asterix to LUN 3 Obelix.

Have a look at the documetation here
