Feature request: hvmcli

Ok, we managed to find out the name of the new configuration utility (hvmcli).

So we dig into it using 'sudo hvmcli tui'.

We could not configure an NTP-server, we used an IP address and a dns-name including suffix, but it wasn't accepted, DNS-configuration worked, but that's what we already added during initial HVM-installation. Hmm, strange. Why is that?

The keyboard language and the timezone could be changed with the TUI-utility. Good, but that's preferably something for the initial configuration.

Currently we don't know what to do with ...

Install VME Manager
Install VME Worker

Let's find out later!

Re: Feature request: hvmcli

Thanks for digging into hvmcli and sharing what you found.

You are correct that sudo hvmcli tui is the interactive configuration interface. The keyboard layout and timezone options you found allow those host settings to be changed after installation. I agree with your earlier point that these are settings users would ideally expect to get right during the initial HVM installation rather than having to discover and change them afterward.

On NTP, though, what you're seeing doesn't appear to be the intended limitation. HVMCLI does support configuring NTP servers independently of DNS, and the documentation includes hostnames such as 0.pool.ntp.org as examples. See: Tools › HVMCLI › node in the documentation.

So if the TUI rejected both an NTP server IP address and an FQDN in your environment, I'd like to treat that separately from the usability feedback and investigate why the TUI didn't accept those values.

Regarding Install VME Manager and Install VME Worker: those aren't additional HVM host configuration steps. They're guided deployment options for deploying a VM Essentials/Morpheus Manager appliance or a Worker appliance onto the HVM host. See Tools > HVMCLI > tui

So if you've already deployed your VME Manager, there's no reason to select Install VME Manager again. The Worker option is for environments that specifically need a distributed worker. We'll also take the point that those menu entries could do a better job of explaining their purpose.
