No internet on VM

Hello,
I am trying to deploy a vm with ubuntu 24.04 os on it in the hpe vm essential. the things is when i deployed and installed ubuntu, i don't have any internet for some reason. With "ip a" i can see that i have no ip address, but i can't think of the reason why, or how to fix it.

Any help will be appreciated.

I somehow fixed it by giving it a static ip, even though it didn't work like that yesterday. The thing i have a problem with now is that in the "Network" tab in the vm under "Network Interface: MyVM" i have:

Primary       IP address                     MAC Address                               Label             Type            Network              DHCP
check              empty                I have a mac address here                 enp3s0                             Management         check

can i even fix it so that it shows my ip?

You can try installing the qemu-guest-agent package, this is similar to VMware guest tools that enables a tighter integration between the guest and the host.

Hi PavelS1,

just that your portgroup is been set with the flag "DCHP Server", doesn't mean that it will start a DHCP server, it is just prepared that the IPs will come by an DHCP server running on that Portgroup/VLAN. That is the reason why the VM don't get automatically an IP address probably.
