Unable to Change Datastore Name in VME Essential

We noticed that in HPE VME Essential, it is not possible to change or rename an existing datastore from the UI or from the instance reconfigure screen.

Problem Description

When managing storage in VME Essential, the datastore (dstore) name is fixed at creation time.There is no option to rename an existing datastore late

There is no “datastore maintenance” feature similar to VMware vSphere.
In vSphere, datastore maintenance is critical for:

Safely evacuating VMs

Performing backend LUN changes

Migrating workloads before SAN operations

Preventing datastore access during maintenance or troubleshootingr.

this is beause the datastore name is written into the signature of the GFS2 and currently there is no way to change this afterwards.

In HPE VM Essentials, datastore names are set at creation and cannot be changed later. Unlike VMware vSphere, which allows renaming, VME requires careful naming during setup to avoid confusion in future operations.

Another important limitation is the lack of a “datastore maintenance mode” feature. Unlike VMware vSphere, which lets administrators evacuate VMs and isolate datastores for backend changes or troubleshooting, VME lacks this feature. As a result, storage reconfiguration or SAN maintenance requires manual VM migration and adds extra operational effort.
