Re: What does "Install VME Worker" mean in the installer?

Some versions of the installer also include an option to install the VME worker. The VME worker is meant for
sites where direct SSH communication between the HVM hosts and the VM Essentials manager is not possible. It is a
feature of HPE Morpheus Enterprise Software and SimpliVity, it is not compatible with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials
Software.

Thank you for the explanation and the documentation link.

I also found the word "gateway" in the documentation.
I understand that it manages environments that cannot be directly connected to via SSH via workers.

Re: What does "Install VME Worker" mean in the installer?

Speaking strictly from a HPE Morpheus Enterprise Software persepective, the Worker has multiple functions that can be enabled.  The word Gateway would be inferred from the VDI Gateway function, one of the first functions available on it when it was originally created.  The worker can do the following for example:

  • Control or initiate connections in a remote environment, without needing to create inbound points from public networks.  Such as adding on-prem clouds, send SSH commands, etc.
  • Proivde console/VDI gateway connectivity to Instances/VMs in the remote location
  • Proxy agent connections and API calls back to the paired appliance, to reduce agent traffic back to the primary appliance or reduce the number of outgoing connections for security purposes

This is why you may see different references to the same item.
