boot order settings in server profile template?

I have four DL560 G10s running esxi 6.7.  When editing the BIOS settings in the server profile template, I don't see any option to define the boot order.  I see:

  • Boot Time Optimizations
  • Boot Options
  • Network Boot Options
  • Pre-Boot Network Settings

None of which appear to have any boot order controls.  Is this not available in the template?

Hi BradV

Can you please try creating a new server profile template and check for the DL servers.

Attaching HPE OneView Deployment and Management Guide Version 4.2 below for your refernce.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

I did.  There is no boot order that I can find.  If one manually goes into the BIOS settings, it can be found at:

F9 (System Utilities) -> System Configuration -> BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) -> Boot Options -> UEFI Boot Settings -> UEFI Boot Order

I can't find that in the BIOS settings through OneView.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

For a G10, in the BIOS settings, I see:

  1. Other
  2. Boot Time Optimizations
  3. Serial Port Options
  4. BIOS Serial Console and EMS
  5. USB Options
  6. Server Availability
  7. Server Asset Information
  8. Server Information
  9. Administrator Information
  10. Diagnostic Options
  11. Processor Options
  12. Memory Options
  13. Persistent Memory Options
  14. Goal Configuration Options
  15. Security Options
  16. Santize Options
  17. Performance Options
  18. Advanced Options
  19. Virtualization Options
  20. Boot Options
    1. Setup Browser Selection
    2. Boot Order Policy
    3. Network Boot Options
      1. Network Boot Retry Support
      2. Network Boot Retry Count
      3. HTTP Support
    4. PCIe Slot Network Boot
      1. ... (not going to list them all)
    5. Pre-Boot Network Settings
      1. Pre-Boot Network Interface
      2. Pre-Boot Network Proxy
      3. DHCPv4
      4. IPV4 Address
      5. IPV4 Subnet Mask
      6. IPV4 Gateway
      7. IPV4 Primary DNS
      8. IPV4 Secondary DNS
      9. IPV4 Config Policy
      10. IPV6 ...
      11. Boot from URL ...
  21. Storage Options
  22. Power and Performance Options
  23. Embedded UEFI Shell
  24. Sever Security
  25. Advanced Options
  26. Date and Time

There is nothing about UEFI Boot Settings

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

I'm up to OneView 5.3.  I still do not see any network boot options other than:

Network Boot Retry Support
Network Boot Retry Count
HTTP Support

There is Pre-Boot Network Settings:

Pre-Boot Network Interface
Pre-Boot Network Proxy
DHCPv4
IPv4 Address
IPv4 Gateway
IPv6 Primary DNS
IPv6 Secondary DNS
Boot from URL 1
Boot from URL 2
Boot from URL 3
Boot from URL 4

In our DL380 G10s, we have a 4 port on-board 331i 1G NIC.  An embedded Flexible LOM 534FLR-SFP+ and a PCI slot 3 562SP+.  We want to boot and run the OS through the 562 NIC.  So, I set the Pre-Boot Network Interface to Slot 3 NIC port 1.  When I attempt to PXE boot, it keeps trying to boot from the 534 NIC.  When I hit F9 and go into the RBSU, under Pre-Boot Network Settings, slot port 1 is selected.  However, under network boot options, the 534 port 1 is set to network boot and both ports of the 562 are disabled.  So, it does not seem that OneView has a way for me to specify the correct NIC to enable for PXE boot.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

FYI, having this available in the OneView BIOS settings is an enhancement request.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

We're running OneView 5.5 right now and have the same desires as you have. Can't figure out how to set the boot order (http vs pxe boot) on Server Template level.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

Under boot options -> network boot options, change http support to disabled.  Then it will default to PXE boot.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

Thanks BradV  - what we actually want is omitting/disabling pxe and use http boot.

Your recommenndation to tweak 'http support'  settings beneath the bios setting does not really help, becaause other options besides 'disable' are 'http only', 'https only' and 'auto'.

But in "Boot Settings" section I can select "PXE Boot Policy" to IPv4 Only, which leads me to this Boord Order>

before it was like this:.

I'm more and more convinced that at this point in time it's not doable via oneview and I"ve to make use of the redfish api.

Re: boot order settings in server profile template?

OK.  We are now up to OneView 6 and we still can't set the boot order.  Please make this available!  We have four more racks of DL380 and DL560 servers.  We are now goig to have to manually go in, start the iLO console, hit F9, and set it manually before we can successfully kickstart them.  We should be able to set this in the server profile template - please.
