Data Center Layout grid size ?? How do I add 800mm racks ??
Hi,
We're using OneView 8.5.00 and I'm having a nightmare trying to layout a datacentre that has 800mm wide racks. The grid spacing in the Facilities, Data Centers, view seems fixed at 600mm and I can't see how to change that. I can create 800mm wide racks no problem, but placing them onto the layout grid is where it all goes wrong. If I put one at origin (0x0) and then another next to it, it wants to snap to the next grid square over, leaving a gap. If I manually edit the rack's position by typing in the location of 800, it won't let me, saying "Entered Rack X Position is overlapping with existing Rack.". It even does this if I make the racks 780mm wide and try to place the second rack at 800mm along the X axis.
How can I resolve this please ? I need to layout the data center in OneView as it is in real life and I just can't get it to work.
Many thanks.
Kev.

Re: Data Center Layout grid size ?? How do I add 800mm racks ??
Hello @Kev64 ,
Please go through advisory document for the HPE Oneview data center layout.
Also, refer to this document for changing the layout of a data center - Link
I hope this works!
Thanks and Regards,

Re: Data Center Layout grid size ?? How do I add 800mm racks ??
Hi. Thanks for the prompt response.
I have read through the documents you linked to, but I am confused. The suggested workaround in the advisory document is "As a workaround, use this functionality for racks of widths of multiples of 600mm.".
What does that mean ? What 'functionality' ??
Regards
Kev

Hi, Could you explain what that means please ? I'm not following what the workaround is.

Re: Data Center Layout grid size ?? How do I add 800mm racks ??
For one thing, this document is referring to version 4.x of OneView. I would have hoped that it would have been fixed by now. Your "fix" is to not place your racks next to each other. Place rack 1 at 0mm, the next at 1200mm. That will enable you to put the racks in a datacenter, but will show a gap between them.

Re: Data Center Layout grid size ?? How do I add 800mm racks ??
Alas, despite that document being very old indeed, the problem still exists. We are on 8.5.0 here and it's still an issue - which is pretty poor in my estimation. Especially considering that HP themselves now sell 800mm wide racks.

Re: Data Center Layout grid size ?? How do I add 800mm racks ??
Kindly refer to the following documents for more information:
Supported Racks and Rack Options :- https://techlibrary.hpe.com/docs/synergy/synergy_12000/setup_install/GUID-C8E44E37-A4C8-4752-A7DC-892708A36446.html
Changing the layout of a data center :- https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00002115en_us&page=s_datacenters-task-edit-layout.html
As discussed earlier the Grid spacing in HPE is set to multiples of 600mm.
In case of 800mm spacing, you need to raise a case with HPE. We can check with the appropriate team for possibilities.
