Removing C7000 enclosure, but keeping server profiles?

Hey

We need to remove C7000 enclosure from OneView before we gets able to upgrade OneView.

We wants to keep the server profiles untouched. Is that possible? What happens if we try to delete enclosure in OneView?

There are no Virtual Connect involved here.

Thanks

Re: Query: Removing C7000 enclosure, but keeping server profiles?

Hey

Thank you, but I don't see how this would answer my quesition - what happens to server profiles if enclosure gets removed/forceremoved ? There are no Virtual Connect involved.

Will all servers be gone and would we need to re-add all servers? Would it mean that all servers need to be powered off?

Thanks

You cannot remove an enclosure from HPE OneView without first unassigning profiles.  This has nothing to do with Virtual Connect.  VCM and HPE OneView Server Profiles are very similar in nature, but VCM owned the "server profile" resource.

I don't know what you are trying to do here.  Removing the enclosure would in turn remove the server hardware resources, as they are associated and manged ultimately by the OA.  HPE OneView extends management capabilities to a central console.

If you plan on removing the enclosure, what will you try to do with the server profiles?  Changing the server hardware type to say a DL will change certain aspects of the profile that you cannot retain otherwise.  If you plan on replacing your c-Class enclosure servers with DL, ML or Apollo, I would just recommend creating new server profiles.

Hello and thank you for the information.

Bottom line, I were thinking about removing enclosure and add individual blades to OneView by iLO ip address. But reading "between your lines", it isn't possible, and we are stuck on OneView 6.x until we retire the entire blade system ?

Correct.

Notice we explicitely listed the bladed servers as extended support with LTS (6.60.xx) too, not just the enclosure.

If you try to add an individual BL server to an HPE OneView appliance, the process will fail saying that the server is part of a c-Class enclosure, which must be added instead.

Thank you all.

Now it became clear to me that we have to stick to OneView 6.x until the blade system get replaced.
