Google Translated

When adding disks, is it possible to expand the existing pool from the GUI?

This is my first time adding a disk to primera A650 storage, so I'm not sure how to do it yet.

Hi fffffsdfas,

Before you add new disks to the HPE Primera A650, please ensure the disks are compatible with the Storage.

Could you please specify the GUI (HPE SSMC or HPE Primera UI)?

Also, when you say Pool, are you referring to a CPG or a virtual Volume?

Hope this helps.!

Regards

Anil

We have confirmed that the new disk is compatible with storage. We have not been able to connect yet, so we will check and reply again

@AnilKT I'm using Primera UI. I checked with HPE engineer that CPG capacity will be expanded when installing a new disk.

I checked that there is volume in the Application sets setting.

fter that, I want you to tell me how to add it. And I wonder if there is no impact on Oracle RAC performance when installing the disk.

Hi fffffsdfas,

Please follow the steps below to add a new volume to an Application set.

  1. Login to the HPE Primera UI.
  2. Go to Storage and then Click on the Application sets.
  3. Select the application set.
  4. Click the edit option at the top right corner.
  5. You will see the volumes section.
  6. Click on the plus icon.
  7. Select the option, add an existing volume, select the volume you want to add, and save the changes.

There will be no impact on Oracle RAC performance, but I recommend adding the new disk during non-business hours.

Hope this helps.!

Regards

Anil

Re: 디스크 증설시 GUI에서 기존 Pool 확장 가능한가요?

Hi  AnilKT,

Is there a problem with expanding the disk if the primera equipment has more than 90% usage capacity?

It's 95% in use right now.
I'd appreciate your input on this.

Re: 디스크 증설시 GUI에서 기존 Pool 확장 가능한가요?

Hi

HPE Primera storage will be calculating space in the following manner:

1. You need to keep in mind that the drive capacity is not 100% usable. You will be able to use about 90% of the drive capacity. So, if you have a 3575 GB drive, you can only produce about 3200 chunklets (of 1 GB each).

2. This spare chunklet reserve depends on the type of sparing you selected when initializing the system. In other words, approximately 7%-13% of the chunklets will be reserved as spare chunklets. MINIMAL sparing is approximately 7%, Balanced sparing is approximately 9%, and Maximal sparing is approximately 12%. Based on the maximal sparing, 2800 chunklets will be available per drive.

3. It is then decided by the system whether to apply RAID-6 (6d,2p) to those chunklets available, so the available space on each drive decreases to around 2100GB.

4. In the available space (2100*8=16800gb), some space will be occupied by the directory data, the .srdata, and the admin files in addition to the available space.

5. The numbers may look closer to real values if you calculate the space using the above factors, after taking the above factors into account.

Hope this helps.!!

Regards
Mahesh.
