How to allocate the different protocols SSD into the Primera CPGs
hi folks,
If I have 8 NVMe SSD and 16 SAS SSD in one Primera A630. How to allocate the different protocols SSD into the Primera CPGs?
Follow the deep dive of Primera IO life. it is essential to explore the concept of creating distinct CPGs for different types of disks. But one HPE employee told me that allocate NVMe and SAS SSD into different CPGs is non-sense.
To efficiently allocate the different types of SSDs, namely 8 NVMe SSDs and 16 SAS SSDs, within the Primera A630, the following guidelines can be followed:
Begin by identifying the specific requirements and characteristics of your storage workloads. Consider factors such as performance needs, latency sensitivity, and I/O patterns.
Determine the number of custom performance groups (CPGs) that will be created. CPGs are logical groupings of drives with similar characteristics and are used to define storage policies.
Create separate CPGs for NVMe SSDs and SAS SSDs to leverage the unique strengths of each technology. For instance, NVMe SSDs offer exceptionally high-speed performance, while SAS SSDs provide a balance between speed and cost-effectiveness.
Assign the appropriate number of drives from each SSD type to their respective CPGs. The allocation should be based on the workload requirements and the performance capabilities of the drives.
Consider RAID configurations within each CPG. RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) provides data protection and performance optimization. Different RAID levels, such as RAID 1, RAID 5, or RAID 6, offer varying levels of fault tolerance and performance characteristics.
Distribute the drives evenly within each CPG to ensure balanced performance across the storage system. For example, if a CPG contains 8 NVMe SSDs, divide them into subgroups of equal capacity, ensuring an equitable distribution of workload across the drives.
Fine-tune the settings of each CPG based on specific application requirements. This includes adjusting cache settings, I/O priorities, and snapshot policies, among others.
By following these steps, you can effectively allocate the different protocols SSDs, NVMe and SAS, into the Primera A630's CPGs, ensuring optimal performance and utilization of the available storage resources.
