SmartArray 5312 and 300 GB Drives

Hi all,

since we need to extend the internal storage of a server before migrating to a MSA Box, I'm wondering if we can use the new 300 GB Drives with the SA5312. (Last Firmware is of 2004 as I've seen).

Anybody who has success with this combination?

Thanks
Stefan

Not sure. In QuickSpec only 146GB supported.

The last update to the Quickspecs was probably before the release fo the 300GB drive.

I would expect the drive to work without any issues. They work fine on the 5i, same generation controller.

Re: SmartArray 5312 and 300 GB Drives

Hi Stefan

Just a point to bear in mind. We have recently tested 8 x Ultra320 300Gb 10k drives against 4 x 146.8Gb 15k drives. The 146Gb drives far outperformed the 10k drives even with twice as many spindles. We wished we had gone for more of the smaller capacity at 15k !!!
