Change Arbiter Machine and IP Address

Hi, will there be any downtime if I repoint the OVC 4.0.1u1 to the new arbiter? We plan to change the arbiter to a different machine and use a different IP address.

Re: Change Arbiter Machine and IP Address

Hi Don_Wilson,

Repointing the OVC 4.0.1u1 to the new arbiter might cause a minimal amount of downtime, which may vary depending on the size and complexity of your OVC cluster. It would only last a few seconds, and should not be noticeable to users.

However, it is important to keep a few things in mind when performing this activity:

1. Make sure that the new arbiter is configured properly and is accessible to all of the nodes in the cluster.
2. If you are changing the IP address of the arbiter, you will need to update the DNS records for the OVC cluster.
3. Schedule the repoint for a time when there is minimal activity on the OVC which would have less impact on the users.
4. Take a snapshot of the OVC cluster before making any changes.

You can refer the below video link for more details on how to repoint the OVC to a new arbiter. The video also pinpoints about the impact of the activity.

I hope this helps.

Sanika.
