dsv-balance-counter-reset
Looks like this is a new option in 5.1.0U1
In the past we had calculated Ised Space I/O where the value of I/O peaks 100% showin in dsv-balance-show --autobalancers on an OVC. Can I just run dsv-balance-counter-reset on every OVC (and what is the impact) or should support be involved to reduce the 100% numbers back to 0 ?

Re: dsv-balance-counter-reset
Hello,
Running the dsv-balance-counter-reset on every OVC (Object Virtual Controller) is generally safe and is intended to reset the I/O counters for the DSV (Data Store Volume) balancers. However, here’s what you should know before proceeding:
Impact of Running dsv-balance-counter-reset
Resets Counters Only:
The command only resets the I/O counters for the balancer statistics. It does not affect the actual data stored, running workloads, or configurations.
It clears the historical peak I/O numbers that are shown in the dsv-balance-show --autobalancers output.
Non-Disruptive Operation:
This action does not disrupt ongoing operations. The I/O balancing process itself will continue functioning as expected.
Support Involvement:
If you’re using this command to clear the 100% I/O peak values purely for monitoring purposes and not to troubleshoot an underlying issue, then it’s typically not necessary to involve support.
However, if the 100% peak values are suspected to result from performance issues or unexpected behavior, it’s a good idea to contact support to ensure no deeper issue is at play.
Use Case for Reset:
The reset is useful for environments where peak values are no longer relevant, such as after addressing workload imbalances or testing.
Best Regards
rose

Re: dsv-balance-counter-reset
Hi Convergo,
Good day.
Apologies for the delayed response.
This command is being run with the elevated permissions and so thats why you see the command starts with dsv, which means it does have an impact on the SimpliVity OVC database and its functionality on balancing the data.
I would always recommend that you reach out to the support team for their inputs and see what other impacts it would have in the longer run.
Support can also look into it and can confirm whether further inputs or monitoring may be needed or not upon further investigation.
Regards
NeetSat
