In the hp simplivity environment
On certain virtual machines, some disks,
When we try to restore files, we get the following message whenever we try to expand the partition list to try and locate files for restoring:
"Error getting partition list"
How can we resolve this issue?
Note : All updates have been made by HP support.
Note : Windows Server 2022 1st disk (MNFS.vmdk) is successful. Disk 2 (MNFS_1.vmdk) failed. The newly added 3rd disk (MNFS_2.vmdk) is successful.

Re: Error getting partition list, when trying to search for files to restore.
Hi Ibrahim
May I know, Are all 3 vmdk files on the same datastore?
If not, the backup will only catch the disks where the .vmx file is located.
All virtual disks must be on the same datastore.
Hope this helps.!!
Regards
Mahesh.

Re: Error getting partition list, when trying to search for files to restore.
Hi Mahesh202
1- May I know, Are all 3 vmdk files on the same datastore?
1- Yes in the same datastore
Note 1 : There was another problem before and therefore all virtual machines were moved from datastore 1 to datastore 2. Then moved from datastore 2 to datastore 3.
OVC communication may be broken while we are moving datastore. What is the solution?
Note 2 : When I clone another virtual machine with the same problem and single disk, there is no problem in the new virtual machine.
According to dontcallmeeddy's comment,
If ovc uses the wrong IP, I think other virtual machines should have the same problem, but it doesn't.

SolutionHi,
The problem is solved.
Below is the solution.
Cause
CTK option enabled for the VMS
Resolution
POA: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2139574
Procedure:-
- Make sure no snapshots are present for the VM, if present kindly consolidate it and delete
- Take a fresh backup before activity
- Power of the VM
- Right-click the virtual machine and click Edit Settings. Click the Options tab, select the Advanced section and then click Configuration Parameters.
Disable CBT for the virtual machine by setting the ctkEnabled value to false.
Disable CBT for the individual virtual disks attached to the virtual machine by setting the scsix:x.ctkEnabled value for each attached virtual disk to false.
where scsix:x is SCSI controller and SCSI device ID of your virtual disk.
- Open the virtual machine's working directory using the Datastore Browser
- Ensure there are no snapshot files (.delta.vmdk) present in the virtual machine's working directory.
- Delete any -CTK.VMDK files within the virtual machine's working directory.
- In the vSphere Client, right-click the virtual machine and click Power On.
- Make sure no active mount present on CD/DVD drive for the VM
- Take a fresh backup and perform FLR on newly protected backup fil
