This can be caused by the presence of VMware snapshots on the VM.

The admin guide for the release you are on should list the supported partition types if you have not tried FLR prior its worth checking the filesystem is supported.

You allways have the option to fully restore the VM and ge the files that way if its critical,

if the server is Windows OS, open disk management if the impacted disk is dynamic instead of basic you will not be able to perform a file level restore from the plug in tool, your option is full VM restore to a new VM with different name.

be sure you disconnect the new VM vNIC otherwise your clone and the source are the same server for your network.

We facing the same issue and find out it was a bug with the communication from vCenter to OVC. It seeams that the wrong IP Addresses of the OVC are used. You seeams to need to block the Federation and Storage IP of the OVCs.
Check on OVC the restapi Log and on vCenter vsphere-ui vigor Log....

tail -n 30 /var/log/rest/svt-rest-api.log

grep "Could not connect" /var/log/vmware/vsphere-ui/logs/vsphere_client_virgo.log

But there are still other bugs so try to restore from other backups in our case just some backups are not usable for FLR

Re: HPE Simplivity Error Getting Partition List Restoration File Level

Same problem for me is fixed.

Below is the solution.

Cause

CTK option enabled for the VMS

Resolution

POA: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2139574

Procedure:-

  1. Make sure no snapshots are present for the VM, if present kindly consolidate it and delete
  2. Take a fresh backup before activity
  3. Power of the VM
  4. Right-click the virtual machine and click Edit Settings. Click the Options tab, select the Advanced section and then click Configuration Parameters.

Disable CBT for the virtual machine by setting the ctkEnabled value to false.

Disable CBT for the individual virtual disks attached to the virtual machine by setting the scsix:x.ctkEnabled value for each attached virtual disk to false.

where scsix:x is SCSI controller and SCSI device ID of your virtual disk.

  1. Open the virtual machine's working directory using the Datastore Browser
  2. Ensure there are no snapshot files (.delta.vmdk) present in the virtual machine's working directory.
  3. Delete any -CTK.VMDK files within the virtual machine's working directory.
  4. In the vSphere Client, right-click the virtual machine and click Power On.
  5. Make sure no active mount present on CD/DVD drive for the VM
  6. Take a fresh backup and perform FLR on newly protected backup fil

@IbrahimBOZ

thanks for your reply

i have the same problem

on some vm the FLR does not work

i have a question for you : if i disable the CBT via the CTK option how about the backup that use the CBT feature ?

every time the backup software (in our case VEEAM) does take a full backup ?

Thanks
