HPE SimpliVity OmniCube disk space for some partitions is dangerously low

Good day, I have a cluster with 4 nodes and it's showing the following alert: "HPE SimpliVity OmniCube disk space for some partitions is dangerously low". In the OmniStack, I executed the command "df -h", but none of the partitions show usage higher than 50%

Re: HPE SimpliVity OmniCube disk space for some partitions is dangerously low

Hi JorgeRiveraG

To free up storage space on a Simplivity Node, you may follow the below steps.

1. Login on the OVC using SSH.

2. Elevate to root and load the dsv commands

           # sudo su

           # source /var/tmp/build/bin/appsetup

3. Check the current storage utilization

           # dsv-balance-show –showNodeIp

4. Cluster is not storage optimized

In case some of the nodes have more storage load (seen in the output of the dsv-balance-show –showNodeIp), maybe the Auto Balancer service is not able to move some data containers, because of its limitations (see Auto Balancer Limitations below).
The Auto Balancer service is responsible for the management of Data Containers as they evolve regarding overall node consumption.

Note: On 3.7.4 and above, the Auto Balancer should be turned on by default.

5. Check for Manual Backups

Normally the manual backups are taken for test purposes and by default they have no expiration date.

To check for manual backups, proceed with the following steps in vCenter GUI:

-       Select the Simplivity cluster and by right-clicking access All Simplivity Actions

-       Select Search Backups

-       Add filter Type and on the right side select Manual

-       Check if those backups can be deleted

6. Check for backups of deleted VMs

To check for backups of deleted VMs, proceed with the following steps in vCenter GUI:

-       Select the Simplivity cluster and by right-clicking access All Simplivity Actions

-       Select Search Backups

-       Add filter VM state and on the right side select Deleted

-       Check if those backups can be deleted

7. Browse the Simplivity Datastores for non-SimpliVity folders or files, like image files, etc.

To check for such folders and files proceed with the following steps in vCenter GUI:

-       Select a Simplivity Datastore

-       Click on Actions and select Browse Files

-       Check all Simplivity Datastores

8. Check if VMs are running on a snapshot

A snapshot of a VM can become very large after a while and it consumes a lot of space.

To check if a VM is running on the snapshot, proceed with the following steps in vCenter GUI:

-       Select VM Settings

-       Select the Hard Disk, if the VM running on VMname-000001.vmdk then it means the VM has a snapshot

There is also an option to configure the vCenter Server to send alarms when virtual machines are running from snapshots. To do this, follow the VMware Knowledge Base article.
Click here to view the VMware Knowledge Base article Non-HPE site.

Hope this helps.!!

Regards
Mahesh.

Re: HPE SimpliVity OmniCube disk space for some partitions is dangerously low

Hi @JorgeRiveraG

Following alarm "HPE Simplivity OmniCube disk space for some partitions is dangerously low" is raised as soon as partition reached above 90% including DS logical space.

you can verify the value from following config file. "/var/svtfs/healthcheck/hcfConfig.xml"

<partitionUsageThresholdPercent>90</partitionUsageThresholdPercent>

Above value is configurable however if customer would like to change the value to 95 or lower it has to changed on all the nodes in the cluster and SVTFS restart is required on all the node one by one keeping VM HA sync.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Jaipal

Hi @Mahesh202 ,

What can we do if the host storage already less than 3% and the omnicube svtfs service not able to start

Thank you.
