I don't see a valid upgrade path

I don't see a valid upgrade path

Here is where we're currently at:
OmniStack 4.0.1
Firmware SVTSP-2020_0225.06.iso
ESXi 6.5 U3 EP18 15177306
vCenter Appliance 6.5 U3f 15259038

The 4.1.2 Interoperability Guide says that any firmware upgrade newer than our current level requires minimum ESXi version 6.5 Update 3 Patch 04 (build 15256549) or 6.7 Update 3 Patch 01 (build 15160138). But the guide says those two ESXi versions require SVTSP-2020_0701.03.iso or greater.

Do I upgrade the firmware first and then immediately upgrade to ESXi 6.7 EP23 19195723 since I can't upgrade the firmware and ESXi simultaneously?

Re: I don't see a valid upgrade path

Hi Kholjaluna,

I see you are on

OmniStack 4.0.1
Firmware SVTSP-2020_0225.06.iso

ESXi 6.5 U3 EP18 15177306
vCenter Appliance 6.5 U3f 15259038

Looking to go upgrade to what?

* I assume the latest of 6.7?

* You state upgrade SimpliVity to 4.1.2.

First you would update vCenter, I assume this is a given. According to the InterOp Guide for 4.1.3, vCenter Server 6.7 U3o
18485166 is supported by 4.0.1 up to 4.1.3. You could go to 6.7 U3r or even the latest U3s.

Second you could minor patch your nodes to 6.5 Update 3 Patch 04 (build 15256549)  is supported by 4.0.1 up to 4.1.0U1. Stay in maintenance mode.

Third, while the node is still in maintenance mode, you'd update your Firmware, probably the latest available so you don't have to do this again: SVTSP-2022_1021.02.iso.  Compatible with 4.0.1 up 4.1.0 and then supported up to 4.1.3.

Then you'd major version upgrade ESXi, probably to ESXI 6.7 EP24 19997733, Compatible with 4.0.1 up 4.1.0 and then supported up to 4.1.2, then compatible with 4.1.3

Do the above the fall the nodes, one at a time....when complete move on to

Finally updating OVC/SimpliVity to 4.1.2, or 4.1.3.

I would possible open a ticket also to make sure support agrees.

I hope this helps.

Re: I don't see a valid upgrade path

Hi @khojaluna ,

We must upgrade the firmware first, the server will go for a multiple boot, post the hypervisor boots you may initiate the ESXi upgrade. Do not turn on the OVC unless we complete the Firmware and ESXi is completed.

Firmware first then ESXi.
