SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
We have an existing and long established SimpliVity Federation that is managed by a single vCenter Server. We are wanting to change that up and wanted to verify if the following things are supported and to determine if one or both can be done with the existing deployed Federation without having to re-deploy it (since that is not really an option for us at this point).
- Can we extend our current vCenter Server setup to be vCenter HA per VMware's documentation and it work with the SimpliVity federation? If so, is there any special considerations that we need to be aware of in moving to this with our existing setup? Does SimpliVity support vCenter HA?
- I have seen in documentation that SimpliVity supports Enhanced Linked Mode, but only really saw information about this during the stand-up of a new Federation. Is it possible for us to stand up a new vCenter Server and set up Enhanced Linked Mode and possibly move one of our SimpliVity datacenters to this new vCenter server without causing problems? If this is supported is there anything we need to be aware of?
If there is any information or supporting documentation on how we may employ these two technologies with our existing Federation, please let me know.
Thanks.

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi ERSpigle
Thank you for coming on HPE Community forums
1. Ans:Yes. And there's nothing in particular for SimpliVity, same VMware prerequisites can be followed.
2. Ans: Yes. If you plan to use Enhanced Linked Mode, you must install the same version of HPE SimpliVity Plug-in for vSphere Web Client on each server running vCenter Server to access the HPE SimpliVity options.
Hope this helps.!!
Regards
Sanika

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi Sanika.
We were told by HPE that vCenter High Availability (HA) is not supported or in the roadmap for Simplivity, so do you know if vCenter HA is documented anwhere or can confirm that it will not cause any issues with HPE Simplvitity?

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi @kekarlsen ,
Unfortunately, vCenter HA is not supported nor is it in the pipeline to be supported. However, if you wish to have this feature possibly qualified, please reach out to your account team, if applicable, to open a DSR request. Sorry for the inconvience.
Furthermore, if you chose to move to an Enhance Linked Mode vCenter configuration, please call into support so that we can migrate your current Simplivity servers to your newly installed vCenter upon creation.

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi @kylerj .
Thank you for the clarification.
The vCenter HA is a feature that we highly would appriciate to be supported by HPE Simplivity, this to comply with our redundancy requirements for our sites with stretched clusters.

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi Sanika,
Do we have updated documentation for SImpliVity support for Enhanced Link Mode with Vcenter, prior what i remember in the documentations, we only support up to 5 link modes for vcenter.

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi @SimonAcha
In my opinion, in a centrally-managed & peer-managed federation, we still support 2 to 5 vCenter servers for Enhanced Linked Mode.
The same is mentioned in the below updated document "HPE OmniStack 5.0.0 for vSphere administration guide":
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=dp00003638en_us&docLocale=en_US
(page no. 20 & 21)
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Sanika

Re: SimpliVity and vCenter Server HA and Enhanced Linked Mode
Hi,
Currently, vCenter High Availability (VCHA) is not supported within an HPE SimpliVity federation.
If you're looking for specific compatibility details, you can refer to the HPE SimpliVity Interoperability Guide or the HPE Support Center for the latest updates and supported configurations.
Regards,
Sanika
