Why can I create a datastore larger than the physical disk

Why can I create a datastore larger than the physical disk capacity? For example, I can create a 100 tb disk datastore while I have 29 TB?

SimpliVity datastores are logical containers and can be larger than the actual physical space. All the data in the datastores is compressed and deduplicated.
