Windows volume deduplication and simplivity How to ? Best practice
Since version 4.1.3 hpe emphasizes that you should not have a volume duplicated by a Microsoft system :
Important: HE OmniStack data is deduplicated and compressed on ingest therefore Guest OS level deduplication is not required or supported. Using Guest OS level deduplication results in a loss of overall storage efficiency and available usable space. Guest OS level deduplication results in significant backup size growth because of the sheer volume of Guest OS level I/O operations generated by the Guest OS deduplication operations. As a consequence,
Guest OS backups can quickly grow to a size where they use all of the available space on a node.
The problem is that I unfortunately have vm in this case and cel for many years.
I would like to know if simply disabling deduplication on the volumes will allow me to correct the problem.
PS C:\> Disable-DedupVolume -Volume
Or if it is also necessary to undupe all the data
I'm afraid to have not enough space on my cluster if I have to do this second Handling.
Thanks

Re: Windows volume deduplication and simplivity How to ? Best practice
Guest OS deduplication being on will usually (from what I have seen and read) break the FLR. It will return as soon as the windows dedupe is turned off. I would try that first as you suggested. Once that is done, see if thingss improve. You shouldn't have to un-dedupe everything. I would also suggest you open a service ticket so one of the engineers can look at the problem as well as the health of everything, to ensure the space issue as well as any read/write problems (if they are present) can be addressed.
While I am an HPE Employee, all of my comments (whether noted or not), are my own and are not any official representation of the company

Re: Windows volume deduplication and simplivity How to ? Best practice
Thx for your reply.
I don't use Simplivity LFS, just the full VM restore. I have Veeam in parallel for the LFS.
I will open a ticket at PointNext to see what they say.
I just checked I only have one VM with active deduplication on the windows server.
Thanks for the information, I'll keep you posted on what the HPE engineers tell me.
