HPE DS3940 Storage
HI
I almost finished my HPe and next week we will get storage system which I am very familiar with. However I am just wondering about internal DS3940 storage.
Can we use this to be like shared like iSCSI storage for multiple esxi host or I need specific software for that. With internal disks for each compute module I have configured RAID 1 2 disks and servers are booting from this logical volume no issues
But I am wondering is there a way to create shared storage present it to esxi hosts as a shared storage there is no documentation on that so I assumed this is not possible although I may be wrong
This is mezannine slot 1 HPE Smart Array P416ie-m SR G10 and doesnt allow me to configure logical drive just JBOD
Embedded RAID this one allows me to put 2 compute mode disks in raid 1 and boot from it
What about this one is this also OK with RAID it just allows me to create JBOD and add logical drive but no RAID
Embedded RAID HPE Smart Array E208i-c SR Gen10

Re: HPE DS3940 Storage
Hello,
The D3940 is the equivalent of a direct attach storage system that would be attached externally to a rack mount server. The difference here would be that you can create array's or JBOD's and assign them to the servers through the profile. This process creates a zone for the drives specified so that they are only visible to the specific server. The drives in the D3940 cannot be shared across multiple servers. The only "sharing" allowed is through the use of a vSAN. These can be used as iSCSI storage just like any other direct attached storage can be.
The D3940 user guide has some details on setting this up:
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00030156en_us&page=index.html
vSAN is supported on this and there are multiple docs covering this (a few listed here):
