cdp and lidp

Hi

 

In my network map, some switch (2524) have under a little box with CDP or LIDP,. What's the signification of these acronym ?

They're discovery protocols the network devices use to identify each other. CDP is Cisco proprietary but HP procurve do have some support for it. LLDP is a standardised protocol supported by most vendors.

I don't know why but some switch have cdp and other have lidp under their name in little box on the map screen.

 

Maybe you know if it's a setting on the switch (2524&3400) and what's setting it's better.

Yeah some E-series procurve supports both, but CDP support has been more and more deprecated (I think its only passive nowadays).

 

In a multi-vendor network LLDP would be better since its standardized and is gaining support in pretty much all vendors. CDP is will only talk to Cisco (and some older E-series procurve)
