HPUX 11.23
HP Itanium Servers
This is installed on some of our HPUX boxes but was done by an engineer on setup, we now require this being setup on some new Itanium systems we have here.
Firstly;
How can I check if ISEE is installed, we connect through netscape on our other systems. Tried on this one as root and it does not recognise in /sbin/sh.
Secondly;
How can I install on our system if it isn't already? Are there any patch dependencies etc.....
Any help appreciated.

Re: ISEE Install
"swlist | grep -i isee" will tell you if ISEE has been installed or not.
If ISEE has not been installed, you can download software from:
http://software.hp.com
Before doing the installation, please review the Installation Guide: http://docs.hp.com/en/5990-8547/ln-d0e227.html
Patch listing and other requirements can be found in Appendix A (page 50) under: Preparing HP-UX Clients for Installation
Hope this helps,

Re: ISEE Install
The address you go to is
http:
You do not need to have netscape installed on the unix box for this to work.
the default id is admin
The default password is isee

Re: ISEE Install
This does not allow me to do this because of our firewall or proxy configuration I believe.
This is why I wanted to connect internally through unix using netscape.
Does anyone know how to install this?

Re: ISEE Install
A quick and dirty fix - plug a laptop into the segment to configure ISEE.
To install Netscape: It was available on one of the application cd's - don't know if it still is. use swinstall to install it
Just so you know, ISEE does need access through your firewall to work

Re: ISEE Install
Netscape is NOT required for ISEE to work. If you have ISEE installed on your HP-UX, make sure:
1. mad daemon is running
2. emsagent and emsListener are running.
3. Make usre port 80 on your Firewall is open for outbound traffic.
Then:
1. From your desktop, logon to the ISEE GUI on the HP-UX box: http://hostname:5060/start.html
2. Continue with the Configuration and Submit.
3. If you receive the next screen, fill in the Serial number, product number and Entitlement ID, submit again.
4. When you receive an email saying your Server is being monitored by HP, then you all all done.

Re: ISEE Install
As i explained previous I cannot access ISEE through IE as our PC's are on a different network as the HP servers and they are on a different network which site behind the firewall, however i found Mozilla on these boxes and ran Mozilla to open.
I enter the URL; http://ipaddress:5060/start.html
and I get a connection refused by host message. How do I activate the port on the host?
I can connect to already configured servers for ISEE without a problem.

Re: ISEE Install
Do you have a mad.log? This log will contain the detailed info.
Also, since you are getting a connection refused on port 5060, you may want to check with your network people if the port is open. One common network security feature is to only open ports as needed, and then only to specific addresses.

Re: ISEE Install
If you cannot logon to ISEE GUI, check to make sure mad daemon is running:
ps -ef | grep mad
To start it up:
/sbin/init.d/hpservices start
Also, make sure you have ISEE version 3.95.026:
swlist | grep -i isee

Re: ISEE Install
I checked to see if mad daemon was running but it did not return any results, on an already configured server for isee I get back the result 'mad -u root -g bin'
Is this mad daemon?
ISEE version is A.03.50.861 on this system and a working system we have A.03.50.80 so i think the version is ok.
I tried to start hpservices and I got the message "Note: hpservices not configured for startup"
Any further help appreciated.

Re: ISEE Install
I am now in, what is SPOP?
On one of our previously configured ISEE clients it says Servername = isee.europe.hp.com (configured by a hp engineer)
I am not sure what our configuration is?
Is there a way to tell whether I am to use standard or advanced configuration?
Also with the change to hpservices.conf file "start_tunrer" entry now set to 1 does this mean these services start on reboot now?
Sorry about all the daft questions, I have never done this before!!

Re: ISEE Install
Chad,
Yes switching the flag to 1 will now mean ISEE atarts automatically at boot.
If you use the same settings as your other servers, you will probably be ok on the configuration.
standard versus extended suppport is defined by the service level/response time you contracted for.
You may want to read the attached doc - it has all the details for setting up/maintaining isee

Re: ISEE Install
Don't forget to modify /etc/rc.config.d/rstemsListener:
# Turn on the RST EMS Listener
RST_LISTENER=1
Then start it up:
/sbin/init.d/rstemslistener start
That process is listening on port 1402 for hardware error.

Re: ISEE Install
The ISEE interface has now been configured as standard configuration and the ems listener has been started.
When ISEE opens I get no details about the server it is running on e.g. the brown box with your computer as the header.
I have looked through the documentation but I am at a loss of what I need to do now?

Re: ISEE Install
Look back my ld message, you need to get ISEE version A.03.95.026 from:
http://software.hp.com
This will correct the problem.

I can still access ISEE which is using the old software.

For some stupid reason I ftp the .depot file to the server in ASCII format. I did an swremove and transferred as binary and all was ok.
Doh. I will assign points accordingly.
