RAM in a rx2620

Hi,

Should I be able to use a6970a (8GB DDR memory quad) in a rx2620?

I have the needed slots, but can only find a6970a together with a rx4640 in the suport matrix.

best regards

Re: RAM in a rx2620

Hi,

You can use part numbe A6835-69001 or A6970A on rx2620 find the loading rules as updated below...

DIMMs must be loaded in quads.
DIMMs in a pair must be identical. When in doubt, check the labels. If the HPPNs (or vendorpart numbers) match, then theyâ re identical!

Above doc will be of much help to you..

Re: RAM in a rx2620

As far as the A6970A is concerned which is 8.0GB DDR-SDRAM memory upgrade kit - Includes four 2.0GB, 266MHz, PC2100, non-ECC DDR-SDRAM DIMM memory modules.

Note it says "non-ECC" which is not qualified or supported on rx2620 server as per service manual.

It seems that A6970A was supported earlier in rx4640 ( even though they might work without offering data protection ?). But it's latest service manual has mention of using ECC modules being only supported. Thus it is clear that lately the use of ECC DIMMS is encouraged and supported by HP on all servers.

Hence I think your best option is to go DIMMS with ECC i.e. AB228A or A6970AX(replacement p/n) ( considering 2GB modules) for rx2620.

Thanks. Inserted the RAM in a test machine.
