How to Allow Multiple Vlans on ESXi 6.5 with HP 5130 EI Series?

Hi All,

I have difficulty to allow multiple vlans on ESXi 6.5 that connected to HP Switch 5130 EI series.

Here is my topology in my site:

I have one esxi 6.5 host that connected to 2 physical switch (stacked already) - HP Switch 5130 EI Series - with 4 wires per each, 8 wires in total.

In VMware ESXi 6.5 side, i use standard vswitch, NIC Teaming configured with "Route based on IP Hash".  and set VLAN on ESXi DCUI to 182 as ESXi Host Vlan.

In HP 5130 side, i configured BAGG4 for those 8 ports, configured with "Static Aggregation Mode".

Then, in BAGG4 interface, I setup link type to "Trunk" and PVID to "182" as ESXi Host VLAN and allowed all vlans.

Actually I want to share my configuration with screenshoot but I can't find the option in this forum.

After all, I try to ping the host, but RTO.

My question:

Does BAGG supported by VMware standard vswitch or not? anyone have info about this?

Do I misconfig between vmware vswitch and physical HP switch that caused I can not contact my ESXi host?

any information will be very appreciated.

Please help to figure out my issue

Best Regards,

Azlan Syah

The rule is: LACP (Active or Passive) Switch side requires vDS and "Route base on IP Hash" as load balancing algorithm VMware ESX side...if you have vSS (a quite common condition) then aggregated ports Switch side are still supported BUT without LACP (so without any form of dynamic link balancing), only Non-Protocol Trunking (called Static) is supported Switch side with vSS.
