Trunking between Two HP 1910 24G POE (365w)
Hi All
I'm New to VLAN, My Company have bought Two HP 1910 POE Switch to connect two of our office branches running on following descriptions:
- Office Branch 1
- Gateway: 192.168.10.1
- Office Branch 2
- Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Both of the Gateways/DHCP Servers are connected through two Separate "Linksys WRT120N Wireless-N Home Router" on both Sides (Branches) for Internet.
I've configured both the Switches on following IPs:
- Switch @ Office Branch 1: 192.168.10.254
- Switch @ Office Branch 2: 192.168.10.253
- Both of the switches will be connected through CAT6 Cable.
- The company requires me to connect both switches BUT only one DHCP Server from 192.168.10.1, so everyone on both branches will use Resources from both Gateways. (on Gateway: 192.168.1.1 some Static IPs are configured e.g. Servers, Printers).
As I'm New to VLAN and Layer3 Routing, I've consulted nearly all of the referrence materials but NO Luck, kindly someone send me a Step-by-Step configuration for this.
Thanx in Advance!

Re: Trunking between Two HP 1910 24G POE (365w)
Are you saying all your hosts on both sites are going to get 192.168.10.0 subnet addresses via DHCP?
Where is their default GW address?

Re: Trunking between Two HP 1910 24G POE (365w)
- @Vince-Whirlwind Yes, all of my hosts going to be on 192.168.10.0 Subnet but the existing 192.168.1.0 Subnet will need to be accessible to the traffic on 192.168.10.0.
- As the DHCP Server will be the Router so the Gateway will be 192.168.10.1.

Re: Trunking between Two HP 1910 24G POE (365w)
In the User Guide - HP 1910 Fast Ethernet Switch Series from Page 150-154, they have mentioned the same scenario as mine, but I've tried the example over and over again (on Factory Settings), but I don't where I'm doing this wrong, I'm not able to communicate between hosts on these two subnets:
- 192.168.10.0
- 192.168.1.0
As well don't know why they described in the User Guide to create VLAN IDs 2, 6-50, 100?

Re: Trunking between Two HP 1910 24G POE (365w)
(Can you do inter-VLAN routing on the 1910? I think you can).
You need to move the 192.168.1.? Router address off FW2 onto the new VLAN on switch1. You need to create a static route on FW1 pointing 192.168.1.0/24 at switch1.
You should also remove the 192.168.10. Address off FW1 and create a new VLAN/subnet to provide the point to point link between FW1 & switch1, as well as a static route on FW1 telling it where 192.168.10.0/24 is. You'll need a DHCP helper on the 192.168.10. VLAN interface on switch1 pointing at your DHCP server.

Re: Trunking between Two HP 1910 24G POE (365w)
@Vince-Whirlwind What I'm trying to do is attached (just for referrence, what I'm trying to do), but what you have replied, I didn't get the FW Part, and what I've understand is:
- I need to Create a VLAN on both Switches (Branches) besides the default.
- I need to move all hosts to Switch 2 in Branch 2.
- Then I need to Trunk the Same VLAN I've created on both or either only on Switch 2?
- You need to move the 192.168.1.1 Router address off FW2 onto the new VLAN on switch1?
- You need to create a Static Route on FW1 pointing 192.168.1.0/24 at Switch1.
- You should also remove the 192.168.10 Address off FW1 and create a new VLAN/Subnet to provide the Point to Point link between FW1 & Switch1?
- Create a Static Route on FW1 telling it; where 192.168.10.0/24 is?
- You'll need a DHCP helper on the 192.168.10 VLAN Interface on Switch1 pointing at your DHCP Server?
Sorry but the things in bold, didn't udnerstand, can you please more elaborate?
Thanx in Advance!
