How to reset HPE MSA 2050 to factory default

Hello,  we have replaced the HPE MSA 2050 storate by a different model.

What I would like to do is to reset the HPE MSA 2050 to factory default to put it to a different use.  I've been trying to find information in the forum but have not find anything.  I tried removing the Volume, the disk-groups, ... but because there is a disk-group that is quarantined (QTCR), it does not allow me to remove anything.

Can anyone give me a hand, it will be greatly appreciated?

Re: How to reset HPE MSA 2050 to factory default

Hi,

the command "restore defaults" is your friend.

This command will restore default settings to the controllers and then restart each Management
Controller. Changes to host interface settings may cause loss of data availability and require some reconfiguration to
restore host access to volumes.

To delete the QTCR, I can send you a PM.

@MitchLincJafr
Restore defaults will clean any configuration settings but if you have a quarantined disk-group then you will need HPE support to clear the drives.
If you can undo the reason for quarantine you could then remove the disk-group.

Re: Query: How to reset HPE MSA 2050 to factory default

Hello, I was able to dequarantine the disks by following the information on the link provided "HPE MSA 2050 Storage - Troubleshooting" and then resetting to factory default with the commands as well.

Thank you to everyone for their help!!!

Re: How to reset HPE MSA 2050 to factory default

why do I need HPE to do it
I understand safety... but I have 40 Drives that come from other units and could could not give a flying F(&^* about the potential data loss as there is no potential data loss
does this really have to be this painful?
Also the unit is out off support so HPe will not help me anyway...

ChatGPT recommended I attached my drives to a server and just erase the drives that way...

Re: Query: How to reset HPE MSA 2050 to factory default

Do you happen to have the steps that were in the links?
I have a 2050 that I need to wipe to reuse whiich the existing data does not matter and as drives from other 2050s.

Thank you in advance.

I am in the same boat. Any chance someone got a quick enouth solution not requiring contacting HP support? will inserting drives into the server and manually cleaning them help? Or pull all drives of the array, inserting one by one and cleaning?

Re: Query: How to reset HPE MSA 2050 to factory default

@AlexPotter
Yes,  if you are able to overwrite the beginning of the drive you will overwrite the disk metadata that identifies the drive as 'belonging' to an MSA Disk-group.
ALL DATA WILL BE UNRETRIEVABLE/UNRELIABLE
Including all data on 'OK' disk-groups in the same pool.  eg. if you have 1 DG go quarantine in a pool, erasing that DG will not restore the pool and return your data.
Only use this method to completely wipe a system.

@Filippot   I can not.
It looks like the Reddit post has moved once or twice.
Please read all cautions when using commands you find on the internet, even in this HPE forum.
Your data is your responsibility and when entering commands which state "diagnostic: For use by or with direction from technical support."
you are treading in areas which can quickly delete all data on your system.
