HPE MSA 2060 FC adding new diska
hi. asking maybe a noob question. recently we bought several disks for msa array to expand its storage because it had 4 free slots. Now im worrying about putting those disks into array. i tried to find manual about this process but found none. Can i add disks while msa storage is operating and not shutdown? should i put those depending on current workload? im worrying because right now on that storage running very critical systems. thank you.

Re: Query: HPE MSA 2060 FC adding new diska
Hi
shouldn't be any problems adding them online
after they are inserted you need to add them to a disk group
Regards

Re: HPE MSA 2060 FC adding new diska
I have been facing the same issue. I also purchased HPE 765451-002 hard drive. You should turn off your system and install the new drive in your server and then transfer the data in the new drive. It may take some time if you don't have enough space in your old hard drive. It took me almost 1+ hour to transfer my important data in new drive and it is working great now.

@jaymichelle121
The original question was about adding drives to an MSA 2060 and not to a server. Your post is inaccurate and misleading
@banhoagni
Here are a couple of docs which can help:
MSA Best Practices: https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00105260enw
MSA Virtual Storage Technical Guide: https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00103247enw
It's important to plan ahead if you think expansion of the MSA is in the future. There are some limitations that can be encountered. The MSA will use disk-groups in the same tier equally and if they are not equal in their performance or capacity characteristics you could end up with poor performance. Using raid level MSA-DP+ avoids many issues.
