Hello,
is it ok to use up all available space for a volume or is it better to leave some pool space uncommittit ?

Re: MSA2040 - use all space ?
The screenshot shows we are using virtual pools. We would have to leave some space available. i.e should not cross the high threshold. When the used space crosses high threshold, the pool becomes degraded and the system shifts to write-through cache mode lowering the performance. In the screenshot, the pools are healthy so you must be below the high threshold.
However, if you disable the overcommit feature all the space can be allocated without impacting the cache mode.
Suggestion would be to use the default setting ( overcommit enabled ).
More on overcommit and thresholds in the smu guide : Document - HPE MSA 1040/2040 SMU Reference Guide | HPE Support
