MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
Hi Everyone,
I have an HPE MSA 2060 FC (Model: R0Q73B) with SFP+ ports that I want to connect to my hosts through a TP-Link 10G switch (TL-SX3008F TP-Link JetStream 8-Port 10GE SFP+ L2+ Managed Switch).
Here are the details of the SFP+ modules I am using:
On MSA 2060: HPE MSA 16Gb Short Wave Fibre Channel SFP+ 4-pack Transceiver (SKU: C8R24B)
On TP-Link: SFP-10G-LR=
The FC ports do not turn up and show as disconnected. I have attached screenshots for reference.
Could someone advise on this issue?
Thanks in advance!

Re: MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
Hi,
MSA 2060 FC models doesn't work with 10G ethernet switches.
You would need to use an FC SAN switch and FC HBA card on the host servers.
Alternate option would be to procure MSA 2060 10GBE iscsi model or replacing FC storage controllers with 10GBE iscsi storage controllers.
Available models are listed in quickspecs sheet of MSA 2060 array:

Re: MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
Hi,
Thank you for your response.Do i need to replace the FC storage controllers?
I can see from the quick spec that these controllers support the following protocols in common.
"8/16Gb Fibre Channel, 10/25GbE iSCSI, 10GBase-T and 12Gb SAS protocol support".
Appreciate if you could help me out to suggest me any solution utilizing the same hardware currently i have.
Below are the details of my products with part numbers:
Site 1 :
HPE MSA 2060 Storage : R0Q74A
SFP : MSA 16Gb short wave Fibre Channel small form factor pluggable transceiver : 876143-001
Switch : TL-SX3008F TP Link
Site 2 :
HPE MSA 2060 Storage : R0Q73B
SFP : MSA 16Gb short wave Fibre Channel small form factor pluggable transceiver : 876143-001
Switch : TL-SX3008F TP Link

Re: MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
Hi,
The storage controllers do not support all 3 protocols at the same time.
The array needs to have FC storage controller to support FC connectivity.
Similarly, the array needs to have iscsi storage controller to support iscsi connectivity.
Similarly, the array needs to have SAS storage controller to support SAS connectivity.
Page 2 of quickspecs sheet has all the different MSA models.
https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00094629enw.pdf?jumpid=in_pdp-psnow-qs
If you have FC HBA cards on the host servers you could make use of the same MSA storage devices you have. You may also purchase and install FC HBA card on the server, if they dont have one.
There are several FC HBA cards available which support direct connectivity to MSA without the need for an FC SAN switch in between.
My suggestion would be to work with an HPE reseller in your region to find a solution that meets your requirement after reviewing your infrastructure.

Re: MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
Hi, Please check the server quickspecs sheet page 73 for the list of FC HBA cards supported by the server. You may opt for either Emulex or Qlogic FC HBA cards.
https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00008180enw
Based on the host server operating system you would need to select an FC HBA card that supports direct connect. This could be verified by downloading MSA 2060 FC configuration set zip file from below SPOCK web link: https://h20272.www2.hpe.com/SPOCK/index.aspx The zip file will contain pdf file corresponding to each operating system. Open the pdf file corresponding to server operating system and select an FC HBA card that supports direct connect. For example: SN1610Q
2P FC HBA card supports direct connect when used with ESXI 8 operating system.

Re: MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
@ArunKKR I have found that there are around 131 HBAs supported and 86 Fiber Channels for my operating system, Windows Server 2019 Standard.
I am using HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Server (P23465-B21).
Does this depend on my server hardware, or do all ProLiant servers with this OS support all these HBAs?

Re: MSA 2060 FC Compatibility with TP-Link 10G Switch
Hi,
There are 12 Emulex/Qlogic FC HBA cards listed in DL380 Gen10 server quickspecs sheet page 73:
https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00008180enw
All the 12 models supports MSA 2060 FC and Windows 2019 operating system in direct connection.
My suggestion would be to opt for a 2 port HBA card rather than a single port card as it will help you provide path level redundancy.
I would suggest to log an HPE support case using server serial number to reconfirm whether the server has free / compatible PCI slots to accomodate the card.
