Problem with creating Disk Group in a New MSA 2050

Hi everyone,

We bought a MSA 2050 and when I want to create disk group on it I face this error :

unable to create diskgroup msa 2050 cannot modify a disk group when it is down

everything seems normal and healthy and I can not find the root cause of my problem.

If anyone can assist me I will be glad.

@Navidnr

You must be having SSD and SAS both type drives installed without "Advanced Data Service Suite LTU" License installed. Please find below details from MSA 2050 Quickspec,

https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=a00008276enw&#

"Configurations which have a mixture of both SSDs and HDDs within the same system being used as a capacity Tier (excluding SSD Read Cache), will require the Advanced Data Service Suite LTU. This rule applies to the system level and therefore the license is required regardless of whether the drives are configured for auto-tiering within the same Pool. All-SSD configurations and SSD Read Cache extension do not require a license on the MSA2050 array."

Hope this helps!

It sounds like you possibly have 1 or more quarantined disk-groups which are stopping you from 'adding' to the Pool.
Check the status of your system:
CLI > show pools
CLI > show disk-groups
CLI > show disks
If there are any disks which are NOT in AVAIL state you may need to resolve that prior to creating a disk-group. Resolution could be as easy as removing the offending drive.  If you have disk-groups or disks with metadata on them you will likely need to contact support to get them wiped clean.
