Replacement Disk for HP P2000 G3

Good Morning,

I am trying to find a compatibilty list of drives for the HP 2000 G3 unit, we are currently using ST2000nm0023 and I am no longer able to source these drives. Will ST2000NM001B work?

Kind Regards,

Christo.

Good Morning Christo,
For the HP 2000 G3 series, which is typically a server or enterprise-class system, compatibility between drives is important, especially for a system that was originally using the ST2000NM0023 drive.

Here’s a breakdown of your situation:

  • ST2000NM0023 is a 2TB 7200 RPM, SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) hard drive from Seagate’s Enterprise Capacity line.
  • ST2000NM001B is also a 2TB SAS hard drive but from the same Seagate series.

While both drives are 2TB SAS drives, ST2000NM001B is an earlier model in the Enterprise Capacity series, and the differences may be in firmware, power management, or other internal specifications. However, in most cases, drives from the same family and with similar interfaces (SAS 6Gb/s in this case) should be compatible with your HP 2000 G3 system.

That said, there are a few key things to check:

  1. Interface Type: Ensure that both drives are SAS and have similar connector types (SFF-8482 or SFF-8643 for newer models).
  2. Firmware Compatibility: It’s ideal to confirm that the firmware on the new drive is supported by the controller in your system. Sometimes, firmware updates are needed for newer drives to function properly.
  3. Capacity: Both drives are 2TB, so the storage capacity is the same, which is typically the primary concern.
  4. RPM: The rotational speed of 7200 RPM is consistent, which should avoid any performance mismatch.

Since these drives are both from the Seagate Enterprise Capacity line, they should theoretically work in the HP 2000 G3, but it’s always advisable to check HP’s official compatibility list (HCL) for the specific model or consult with Seagate support if there are any concerns about minor model differences.

Kind regards,
Eva
