volumes disappeared

hi team

3 volumes on controller B have disappeared from a diskgroup for no reason, while the other existing volumes on controller A are still present.
i've checked the logs and see nothing to explain the problem.
has anyone experienced this phenomenon?

regards

Was the B pool removed?  CLI> show pools
Was the B disk-group degraded or critical or Quarantined?   CLI>  show disk-groups

You can check the audit log on BOTH controllers to see if there were any active commands to remove the volumes or delete the pools
CLI>  show audit-log

Three volumes unexpectedly vanished from a disk group on Controller B, while Controller A's volumes remain, with no explanatory log entries. This points to a critical issue likely stemming from Controller B's health (e.g., crash, hardware fault, firmware glitch), inter-controller communication failure (HA link), metadata corruption specific to Controller B, or underlying backend storage path problems. Immediately escalate to your storage vendor's support with all available logs for diagnosis.

Re: volumes disappeared

@ahotm
The audit log is available in the latest firmware for MSA Gen4 products (1040/2040/2042).
You can find the links for the latest firmware from here:  https://www.hpe.com/storage/msafirmware

Unfortunately, updating the firmware now will not retrieve any actions performed previously.

As the other response noted, there could be a significant issue and permanent data loss. engaging official support would be the next step.

You state "No pool removed"  are there Pools or since this is a Gen4 and linear storage (vs virtual) is available,  are there any disk-groups which are owned by the B controller?

Re: volumes disappeared

@JonPaul,\

ok for upgrade .

No No pools have been deleted.

yes, there are pools on controller A and controller B in linear mode.

the disappeared volumes were all on pools on controller b and these pools are still present with  in FTOL status.

it's verify strange

Re: volumes disappeared

Hi @ahotm,

I have not come across any scenarios where in volumes got deleted/missing without any visible entries in event logs.

The only option in this scenario would be to log an HPE support case to get the store logs reviewed for any reason.

Please note that MSA 2040 is an end of support life products and support options might be limited.
