can an E60 take a Windows 98 OS?

We have retired our NT Server so I am reformatting it with Windows 98 - I can not find drivers for the PCI LAN Adapter for Windows 98 so I am wondering if it is possible to even operate a 98 on that machine. If so, where can I get the LAN drivers?

Annette,

All I can say is WHY??

Install 2000 so that you can find some drivers and have a little more stable OS. Or install Linux. There will be no drivers to find from HP other than for NT and 2000 for MS.

Hi there.
Pls explain to me, why you try to spoil such a nice machine with this MS Win98 version.(?)
With other OS ( Linux / W2K / Win XP )
you have more choice in drivers and nearly everything else.
I would suggest Linux, because it is free and you can get a lot of help in the internet.
I use an Intel machine with Linux as router and server to the internet.
The gain in performance against MS is great.

I have seen an E60 running 98. I don't know if the intel based drivers would work, but you can try that. Look for an Intel 10/100TX PCI adapter driver. At worst, you could just put a NIC you know is compatible with 98 in the system.

The reason I am putting Windows 98 on the machine is because it's what I have. No other reason than economics. It's the software I have and am familiar with.

Re: can an E60 take a Windows 98 OS?

Hi there.
That was not meant to be an offense, sorry.
Suggestion :
try www.driverguide.com or www.driverzone.com for your drivers.
Get the machine running.
Get LINUX from the internet.
You can install it besides an existing Win installation.
If possible, try on an old machine first for testing.
If you decide to go to Linux, you will see better performance and many other things.
And after some time you also know more about Unix.

Re: can an E60 take a Windows 98 OS?

I have 98SE working on this NetServer NIC FINALLY works - I had to do some registry managing vnetsup.vxd,vnetbios,vxd,vredir.vxd,dfs.vxd put themselves as "static" so I had to delete them - other than that it went well. NOW - I have another question. Video drivers for this machine with 98SE loaded on it. I can find the video drivers for NT but not for 98SE - any suggestions?????
