Expanding LH3000 capacity with 300GB HDD using D6128A tray
I am trying to increase my LH3000 with 5x300GB HDD SCSI U320 (411261-001), but i have to use D6128A tray, right ?
How do I order this HDD with this tray ?
Is there any limitation to the capacity of this server/tray ? Because there are sites listing 146GB HDD with D6128A (low profile) tray, but none with 300GB.
Thanks
Shahul

Re: Expanding LH3000 capacity with 300GB HDD using D6128A tray
Hello Shahul,
The largest tested and supported hot swap drive for the LH3000 was the 73.4GB model. This was D9420A and P3577A for example.
It's feasible to purchase a tray and add your own drive, one that supports the SCA connector on the drive and SCSI backplane, however, you're on your own really and it's unsupported.
Ignoring supportability for the moment, your other question which I can't immediately answer is effectively, what size array will the NetRAID support. If you consider a typical max configuration of 2 (channel) by 12 (drive) and 73.4GB (capacity) comes to approx 1.8TB, you may just scrap in without hitting a firmware limit.
Perhaps someone could dig out the max array size information?
In any case, you're own your own support wise and you'd be risking putting such a configuration into production use.
Any reason why you didn't or don't want to invest in a more recent ProLiant model? A reminder the LH3000 doesn't support Windows Server 2003 for example, so I'd be investing money in an updated server with storage if the requirement is for production use.
Regards,
Andrew.
